'Carry out repairs now' to avoid home insurance claims

Consumers are being advised to carry out home maintenance before adverse weather conditions cause damage in the run-up to Christmas.
Home insurance provider NFU Mutual advises homeowners to check a range of features on their properties, such as ensuring that chimneys are in a good state of repair, checking that outbuildings are secured and making sure that exterior lighting and security cameras work.
Laura Wood, spokesperson for the firm, notes: "This year's weather has been totally unpredictable.
"We had severe storms in January, heavy snow in February, followed by a warm and sunny Easter and then rain and floods all summer. What this winter will hold is anyone's guess."
As such, Ms Wood suggests that homeowners review their level of cover.
The Association of British Insurers recently outlined a number of ways in which homeowners can reduce their home insurance premiums, such as fitting high-quality locks to windows and doors.
