Home insurance customers have been advised to make sure that they have adequate cover to protect their property from damage by children.
Direct Line Home Response 24 issued the warning in light of recent research indicating that some 60 per cent of parents believe that their toddlers have damaged their house.
One in ten of these parents believe that destructive behaviour carried out by kids has reduced the value of their property by an estimated average of £1,997.90.
Andrew Lowe, spokesperson for the firm, noted that the research shows that most toddlers have caused some form of damage.
"We recommend all parents ensure they have sufficient insurance to cover possible accidents and make sure any repairs are carried out by qualified tradesmen," he noted.
Earlier this month, it was estimated by Sainsbury's Bank that damage to homes caused by children and pets over the recent half-term holidays could reach some £106 million.
