Consumers have been advised by Abbey to ensure that they are not victims of burglary as they celebrate Guy Fawkes' night.
The home insurance provider has urged members of the public to lock up their properties and to consider deterring opportunistic thieves making their home look occupied if they are out.
Prasad Shastri, head of insurance marketing at Abbey, stated that burglars may make the most of increasingly dark evenings and the distraction that fireworks can provide during this time of year.
"If you are in a different part of the house, make sure that the main entrances are secure and make your home look occupied if you are going to be away from it for the evening. Perhaps leave a light on in the front room or hallway and leave the radio on," he added.
In recent days, Halifax advised consumers to ensure that they have adequate pet and home insurance to cover any unforeseen happenings that may occur during fireworks displays.
