Despite the fact that the risk of flooding seems to have diminished in many regions of the UK, home insurance provider Lloyds TSB has urged consumers to remain vigilant.
The insurer has stated that harsh weather in coming months may still cause problems for homeowners and as such has issued a set of guidelines for those who could need to make a claim for damage to their home or possessions.
Advice includes examining exactly what an insurance policy will extend to cover, to not throw away any damaged items as the provider may wish to inspect them and checking to see if the insurance covers temporary accommodation if a residence is rendered uninhabitable.
Managing director of Lloyds TSB Phil Loney stated: "[While] this type of severe weather is becoming more common ... With the right preparation and know-how, it is often possible to get things back to normal relative quickly, even if your home is damaged," he concluded.
Insurer Cornhill Direct recently advised consumers to prepare a flood pack, including a torch, a first aid kit water, blankets and warm clothes.
