Homeowners have been warned to remain on guard against bogus builders offering to carry out work on their properties, as botched work could result in a costly home insurance claim.
Lloyds TSB has noted that although the floods which swept Britain have long since gone, the amount of time it takes for a property to dry out means that many homes are only now ready to undergo repairs.
The financial services firm warns that repairs carried out by cowboy builders are usually of low quality and can be costly to put right.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs for the Federation of Master Builders, commented: "A quality tradesperson will have a queue of customers waiting to have work done on their homes - they will not have time to knock on your door."
Home insurance provider Legal & General recently advised consumers to safeguard their properties against damage due to poor weather in the run-up to Christmas by carrying out "health checks" on their home.
