'Ensure home insurance covers present hiding places'

The safety of certain hiding places for Christmas presents has been highlighted by home insurance provider Abbey.
Research by the firm suggests that consumers who stash their presents in the homes of friends or relatives may be at risk of their gifts not being covered should they be unexpectedly stolen or damaged.
Abbey also notes that goods hidden in outbuildings, such as a garage or shed, may also not be covered by a policy.
Prasad Shastri, head of insurance marketing at Abbey, notes that although hiding presents until Christmas day is part of the fun of Christmas, since some people start getting ready as early as January, their hiding places could be worth a fortune before they are handed out.
"Friends' houses and sheds may seem like good hiding places for presents, but people should be aware that these places may not be covered by your insurance," he adds.
A recent study by the home insurance provider suggests that Scots are the most generous when it comes to buying Christmas presents, with the average consumer spending £480 on gifts this year.
