Home insurance policies 'take increased contents into account'

Many home insurance policies will automatically increase the number of items they cover in the period during and after Christmas, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Spokesperson for the association Malcolm Tarling explains that numerous insurers take into account the amount of costly items consumers may have in their properties.
"Many policies will now automatically increase your sum insured on a temporary basis for the months either side of Christmas to take into account the value of items that you've got in your home," he notes.
He concluded that he believed there is an above average number of gadgets such as digital televisions, camcorders and iPods in people's homes during the festive period, which are easy to steal, conceal and sell on.
In related news, home insurance provider LV= recently noted that nearly 15 million Brits risk attracting the attention of burglars by displaying costly items such as televisions and jewellery in the windows of their homes.
