Secure homes this Christmas, says Direct Line

Christmas provides an ideal time to install security devices in the home to deter opportunistic thieves, according to a leading home insurance provider.
Direct Line advises consumers to not leave presents on display next to windows, or all in one place such as under the tree or in a bedroom.
Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance at the firm, comments: "Many burglaries occur when presents such as electrical goods are left in view of passers by."
He adds that the festive season is a good time to purchase simple security measures for a property, which could also result in a reduction in home insurance premiums.
Recent research by home insurance firm LV= indicated that almost 15 million Britons leave themselves at risk of burglary by leaving costly items on display.
In particular, it suggested that theft accounts for more than a third (36 per cent) of crime in the UK and costs the nation £2.8 billion every year.
