Consumers urged to check policies at Christmas

Home insurance provider RIAS has urged people to check that their policies provide them with adequate protection during the Christmas period.
The firm noted that expensive presents such as designer clothes, new gadgets and piles of festive food can see the value of home contents rise significantly.
RIAS also states that some people may forget that they accumulate belongings over time, not just at Christmas, so they could be left with high replacement costs if unexpected damage or burglary was to occur.
Managing director of the firm Janet Connor comments: "The threat of burglary along with the potential for accidental damage during the Christmas period cannot be ignored.
"But unlike motor insurance, people seem less inclined to review their household contents insurance on a regular basis."
Direct Line also recently noted that Christmas is a good time to review home insurance, especially as new expensive possessions may need to be individually valued on a policy to ensure that they are covered.
