Brits risk home insurance claims 'by hoarding gifts'

Almost half of Brits throw unwanted Christmas gifts into their cupboards and lofts, according to new research by Barclays.
Results of the study by the home insurance provider indicate that friends, aunties and grandparents are blamed for giving the worst gifts, while nine per cent of women say their husbands and boyfriends are the worst present givers.
Andrew Jones, product director for Barclays current account and savings, comments: "Almost a third of the people we surveyed said they would rather receive tokens or money than an unwanted gift and 13 per cent even said they would rather not have anything."
While consumers may not always appreciate their gifts, it could be advisable for consumers to check that their home insurance policies cover the items in their properties this festive season.
In related news, it was recently noted by home insurance provider Abbey that Brits have more than £50 million worth of inherited items in their homes that they do not actually like.
