A total of 50 per cent of people will give cash as a festive gift this year, according to new research by the Post Office.
More than one in ten consumers aged between 35 and 44 give cash to their parents to celebrate the yuletide season, while almost two-thirds of those over the age of 55 send cash gifts to family members at Christmas, including children and grandchildren.
Rob Scott, MoneyGram manager for the Post Office, comments that many last-minute Christmas shoppers will be getting ready to send monetary gifts to their nearest and dearest.
With much cash and many expensive gifts in people's homes over the festive period, it may be wise for homeowners to consider extending their home insurance cover to ensure that they are protected.
Halifax Home Insurance recently stated that Christmas is an ideal time to improve home security, which could help homeowners to ensure that only the intended recipients open gifts on the big day.
