Thieves' Christmas list identified

Many burglars have their own wish list of must-have items over the festive period, according to new research by a home insurance provider.
A study among convicted burglars by Zurich suggests that cash and credit cards are the most wanted items, followed by electronic equipment such as digital cameraa, laptops and consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii.
Mark Searles, managing director of retail at the home insurance provider, explains that many people do not think of the risks that are associated with Christmas and as such gives advice on how consumers can protect themselves over the yuletide season.
"Putting presents under the tree may look nice, but keeping them out of sight is a must to prevent opportunistic thieves. Make sure you put lights on a timer to make the home appear occupied - it's also a good idea to check your home insurance cover," he concludes.
Halifax Home Insurance noted in recent days that Christmas is a perfect time for households to carry out enhancements to home security which could help protect both themselves and their presents from potential burglars.
