Christmas 'should prompt home insurance reviews'

As the UK gears up for the final assault on Christmas, one home insurance organisation is warning about the risks of loss associated with the holiday. According to a YouGov poll conducted on behalf of Churchill Home Insurance, December sees a marked rise in the amount of items lost - a fact that could have implications for consumers' home contents insurance. The strains of Christmas shopping and the increased chance of having had one too many were both identified as causative factors in the increase. Data collected that YouGov reveals that women are twice as likely overall to lose an item during the Christmas rush. However, men are more than three times as likely to lose something as the result of drunkenness. Anyone looking to renew their home contents insurance might like to review the level of cover for items carried out of the home, given that the average claim value for wallets, handbags, phones and other such items comes in at £126. Meanwhile, in related news, Cifas has recently released data suggesting that Christmas is a peak type for ID fraudsters - and is urging people to take particular care of their handbags and wallets to minimize the risk of thievery.
