Lots of Brits 'could be financially fitter'

Many Britons are not eager to put much leg work in when it comes to renewing their home insurance, according to Abbey. New research by the financial services provider suggests that more than one in five (21 per cent) of consumers did not shop around last time they renewed their home insurance policy. A survey by Abbey gave consumers a number based on the handling of their finances, with a lower score indicating good fiscal management and a higher one suggesting that there is room for improvement. Women scored an average of 43, while men returned a figure of 41. Director of banking at the firm, Steve Shore, commented: "Less than a third of people score less than 30 which suggests that the majority of the population could do with a financial workout." Consumers were recently warned by Halifax Home Insurance that they should keep their provider abreast of any major purchases they make to ensure that their policy covers them.
