Ice ahead 'may cause home insurance claims'

The Met Office has predicted icy conditions this week that could lead some UK consumers to claims on their home insurance policies.
People living in Northern Ireland and parts of England had been warned to expect heavy rain earlier this week, but the weather experts are now expecting to see temperatures plummet and frosts form in many regions.
Floods and low temperatures can often cause property damage and prompt home insurance claims, but the Met Office is convinced that a high pressure system will be over the UK in time for the weekend.
Barbara Young, chief executive of the Environment Agency, said: "If you live in an area that is affected by the warnings and severe warnings, then precautionary measures should be taken."
"We remain on high alert following Met Office forecasts and are continuing to monitor the situation," she added.
According to analysis of data from Sainsbury's Home Insurance, there was an increase of around ten per cent in the number of home insurance claims made as a result of property damage between 2004 and 2006.
