One-fifth of British consumers have neglected to secure a home buildings insurance policy, recent research has demonstrated. The latest figures from home insurance provider Nationwide show that 20 per cent of British households would not be covered in the event of fire or weather-related damage. Furthermore, Nationwide has revealed that people in the north-east of England are least likely to have home buildings insurance and that a quarter of those around the country who have secured this kind of cover are not certain of what their particular policy entails. Nationwide's insurance director Robin Bailey remarked: "It is surprising that so many people are prepared to take such a gamble on their homes and personal belongings when you consider how much time and money we all invest in our homes. Earlier this month, home insurance provider Sainsbury's Bank reported that the scale of property damage increased in the UK during recent weeks due to adverse weather conditions around the country.
