Contents and building insurance 'equally important'

Contents and buildings insurance are as important as one another, according to Nationwide's campaign manager.

Charlotte Sjoberg's comments come after research from Nationwide revealed that one in five homeowners do not have buildings insurance and, of those who are insured, one in four do not know what they are covered for.

Other results included that 14 per cent of respondents do not have a home contents insurance policy and that people living in the north-east were least likely to be covered by buildings insurance.

The campaign manager states that many consumers think that buildings and contents is "really complicated". However, Ms Sjoberg states that the product is "really important" and for consumers "being without it is putting your home at real risk".

"Whether you are in a flood risk area or not, it is really important to protect your home against unexpected events. You really don't know what could happen," she adds.

Nationwide is the largest building society in the UK
