Brits are getting into the romantic spirit of things by spending a total of £1.6 billion on Valentine's Day presents this year.
And with the average consumer preparing to pay out £71.25 on their gifts, it may well be prudent to ensure that adequate home insurance cover is in place, according to online funds firm PayPal.
It appears that younger people are more inclined to shower their significant other with gifts as 44 per cent of those between the ages of 18 and 24 intend to spend between £50 and £99 on a present, while a third (33 per cent) of older adults plan to shell out this amount.
Cristina Hoole, spokesperson for the firm, comments: "With Christmas only a few weeks behind us, millions will be hitting the shops en masse."
Home insurance company Direct Line recently advised consumers to keep their valuables safe by having them periodically valued by their policy provider.
