'Ensure home insurance covers Valentine's gifts'

Romantics planning to pop the big question on Valentine's Day have been urged to ensure that they have adequate home insurance to cover any extravagant purchases they make.
Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) states that with ten per cent of wedding proposals this year expected to take place tomorrow and with the average cost of an engagement ring now standing at £1,500 it may be prudent to make sure that an adequate policy is in place.
James Hillon, head of home insurance at CIS, explains it is obvious that romance is not dead and that while it may not be the most romantic idea to consider an insurance policy, it is important that they do so.
"Unfortunately many people don't realise that they don't have personal possessions cover until it's too late. Our advice is to check your cover before going down on bended knee and ensure that your romantic evening doesn't end in tears," he explains.
Halifax recently pointed out that one in five Brits are prepared to spend over £100 on a gift for their partner on Valentine's Day.
