Home and contents insurance 'not something to sacrifice'

Homeowners should ensure their property and its contents are insured against possible flood damage, a financial comparison website has advised.
Following the issue of several flood warnings last week by the environment agency, fairinvestment.co.uk is reminding consumers of the disastrous consequences of last year's flash floods which saw 49,000 households flooded between May and July.
Rachel Stiles, a spokesperson for the website, said although it is easy for homeowners to think they will not be affected by floods, recent rainfall has served as a reminder of the damage caused by last year's floods.
She added: "As household bills increase, it could be easy to sacrifice home insurance, but home and contents insurance is not something to be sacrificed.
"Your home is probably your most valuable asset and to forgo insuring it could be disastrous."
The Association of British Insurers has recently struck a deal with the government that will see it provide more information on how to obtain flood provision as part of a household insurance policy, while ministers will boost funding for flood prevention.
