Benefits of home contents insurance outlined by expert

Home contents insurance can help prevent the loss of a mobile device becoming a substantial expense, one expert has claimed.
Danny Joff, a legal adviser at insurance firm Hollard, told Persfin.co.za that if a mobile phone is lost or stolen while in the home, claims can be lodged under a household contents insurance policy, even if the device has not been specifically listed.
"Your household contents insurance policy, by definition, covers all items damaged or stolen within the confines of your home, and this includes cell phones," he explained.
He advises consumers to consider specifying their handsets in the all-risks section of their household contents policy so they are covered for incidents that occur outside the home.
In addition to the cost and inconvenience of replacing a lost or damaged handset, customers with a phone contract will be legally obliged to continue paying it if they do not have insurance, Mr Joff added.
Meanwhile, commenting on behalf of Alert Me, reformed burglar Michael Fraser has advised strong locks can deter burglars from breaking into a property.
