Summer hols herald home insurance reminder

With school now officially out for the summer, parents have been warned by home insurance comparison site Tescocompare.com to be mindful of their kids around the home.
According to research by the site, young children cause over 850,000 accidents in the home every year, with damages totalling £229 million pounds, a major drain on household insurance.
In fact, Tescocompare.com revealed that young children are the number one cause of damage in their households, responsible for nearly half (42 per cent) of all accidents, while teenagers are responsible for a further 250,000 accidents totalling £68 million.
Commenting on the research, Paul Baxter, a spokesperson for the website, warned that many parents are leaving themselves open to unnecessary risk by refusing to cover their homes for accidental damage.
"With children at home during the holidays the likelihood for accidents to happen increases - and if you aren't covered for accidental damage to your possessions it isn't too late to add this cover to your policy," he said.
According to Confused.com, British homeowners lost out on £9.3 billion of savings in the first half of 2008 by failing to shop around for their home insurance.
