Alarms 'do not cut cover price' - Household insurance

Although making a home more secure, installation burglar alarms and other security measures may not lower household insurance, new research has suggested.
A study by comparison website Tescocompare.com found the difference in home insurance for properties with and without burglar alarms averaged at around £5.
Paul Baxter, director of commercial and partnerships at the website, said installing alarms does have an effect in deterring burglars from targeting a home but will not be offset by any significant reductions in the price of household insurance cover.
However, he still highlighted the need for good security, adding: "Hardly a day goes by when we don't see a story about crime in the papers and it is therefore not surprising that people are doing more and more to feel safer in their homes."
Earlier this week, comparison website Confused.com advised homeowners to maintain security at their properties, despite the British Crime Survey revealing there has been no large increase in the number of burglaries.
