Lock doors and windows, Suffolk homeowners warned - Home insurance

Homeowners in west Suffolk have been urged to lock their doors and windows to guard against opportunist thieves, household insurance holders in the area may like to know.
In the last month more than 40 per cent of homes burgled in the area have been entered through unlocked doors or windows, the East Anglian Daily Times reports.
Suffolk police's acting detective chief inspector (DCI) Nick Bennett told the news provider that an open window or door is an invitation for a thief to enter.
"In the summer it's tempting to leave doors and windows open, but we would advise you to only do so if you're in the room," he said.
"Otherwise keep them locked and keep the burglars out."
Acting DCI Bennett added that around half of the burglaries have occurred during daylight hours and urged homeowners to record serial numbers and postcode mark items of value.
If a burglar gets in through an unlocked entry point, people could find their home insurance policy does not cover them.
Last week, Hertfordshire police reminded local homeowners to maintain household security measures due to rise in the number of homes raided, according to the Welwyn & Hatfield Times.
