Police in Loughborough have formed a special task force to tackle distraction burglaries, it has been reported.
In a development which may interest household insurance owners in the area, the team revealed it has arrested 15 people in connection with the offence over the last four months, according to inloughborough.com.
Detective sergeant David Kirby, part of the distraction burglary taskforce, told the news provider: "We are cracking down on people who commit distraction burglaries and this should send out a clear message that they will have nowhere to hide if they commit these offences."
He also revealed that the team meets with other organisations from police forces in the surrounding areas to share information and co-ordinate operations.
The team also asked homeowners to answer their doors with chain locks on and be wary of visits from people claiming to be from organisations such as utility companies.
Earlier this week, Avon and Somerset police warned homeowners to be aware of the risk of 'walk-in' burglaries during the summer months.
