A "capture house" scheme which was rolled in West Yorkshire has succeeded in catching burglars in every major area of the county.
West Yorkshire police have revealed people have been arrested in Wakefield, Leeds, Bradford and Kirklees after being launched in February this year, while may interest people with household insurance cover in the region.
The houses were filled with goods attractive to burglars and rigged by police so they can monitor anyone who breaks into them.
Burglars are recorded with detection technology, while a liquid-based marking solution allows them to be identified at a later date.
Detective chief inspector Lisa Coupland, of the West Yorkshire police local policing department, commented: "House burglary is a serious crime and offenders need to understand we will continue to use cutting edge methods such as this to catch them out and put them before the courts."
Recently, it was reported that a thief in Hampshire was arrested after falling asleep in the house he broke into, leading police to describe the crime as "idiocy".
