'Extend insurance to cover holiday homes' - Household insurance

It could be a good idea to increase household insurance cover to include items taken out of the country, it has been claimed.
According to the AA, cover can be extended to cover items anywhere in the world, making it useful for people with holiday homes or who travel a lot.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the organisation, said it allows people to claim for lost or damaged equipment and items on their home insurance policy without needing to arrange a second cover.
"The other advantage is that if you are taking out travel insurance, you don't need to include the baggage element because that is covered with your home insurance," Mr Crowder added.
According to research from Zurich Private Clients, one in ten people with holiday homes do not have cover on the property, while another 11 per cent were not sure if the level of household insurance they have is adequate.
It also found the average value of contents in a holiday home is £15,200.
