Nottinghamshire police are calling on Sutton and Kirky residents to set up Neighbourhood Watch groups, suggesting it can reduce the cost of their home insurance, it has emerged.
Michael Powis, crime reduction manager, said the schemes provide a way for communities to help police tackle problems such as anti-social behaviour, the Mansfield Chad reports.
He told the newspaper: "Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention schemes ever and our aim is to strengthen this network locally."
In addition to making neighbourhoods safer, the members of the scheme can also find the cost of their household insurance cover falls by up to £60, while they can gain advice on crime prevention.
The news provider also reveals that the Ashfield area of Nottingham already has 300 Neighbourhood Watch groups, but police believe increasing this number will further prevent crime.
Earlier this month, Hertfordshire police announced they will offer advice to residents who have left their homes unlocked, according to the St Albans and Harpenden Review.
