A burglar was arrested after he was spotted leaving a house swigging from a bottle of wine and wearing bright clothing, it has been reported.
In news which may interest south Devon home insurance holders, a witness saw Harry Ryan, 48, and an accomplice leave a house in Torquay, attracting her suspicions according to the Western Morning News.
Wearing a distinctive fluorescent jacket and drinking a bottle of wine - which he had brought along with him for the raid - Ryan climbed out of the home's window and fell over in the street.
The witness called the police, who arrived and arrested the drunken thief, who admitted he had "done something silly", the newspaper reports.
Ryan, of Keysfield Road, Paignton, claimed in the police interview that he could not remember the crime, although his bag contained a DVD player, some cooking sauces and £2 in change.
He pleaded guilty to burglary at Exeter crown court and was caged for ten months.
Judge Graham Cottle, sentencing, told the hapless criminal: "You were wearing a highly visible jacket and took your own wine with you. It is extremely distressing for householders to have their properties broken into, even by drunks like you."
Last month, 22-year-old Lee Kildare, from Walker, Newcastle, was given a 12-month community order with supervision after her was found drunk during a raid to steal copper from a house.
