Two men who carried out burglaries while posing as police officers have today been jailed, a source states.
Simon Ali, 35, and Billy Birchall, 24, were sent to prison after admitting responsibility for two burglaries and conspiracy to commit more, reports NewsShopper.co.uk.
The pair were sentenced to five years for each of the two previous offences and five years for conspiracy to commit burglary, all of which will run concurrently, the source states.
Victims were forced to claim on their household insurance cover after the pair used fake police warrants to access homes.
Detective sergeant Paul Dorey, told the website: "It is clear Ali had plans to commit burglaries on a large scale and was targeting vulnerable victims with the aid of his co-conspirator."
The website states Mr Birchall claimed the value of goods stolen during a Croydon raid could reach £30,000 for the home insurance claim.
Meanwhile, a burglar was recently arrested after leaving the house he broke into wearing brightly coloured clothing and swigging from a bottle of wine, reports the Western Morning News.
