Household insurance cover holders in Cambridge may be interested to hear there has been an increase in burglaries in the area.
According to the Cambridge News, there have been 100 burglaries in the town since August 1st, with 40 of the criminals able to steal goods after walking into unlocked homes.
In the same period last year, the area experienced 46 burglaries - while July 2007 saw 89 offences, compared with 149 in the same month this year.
Detective inspector Alan Page told the news provider: "I would urge residents to ensure their homes are kept secure at all times."
In addition, homeowners should consider keeping curtains and blinds drawn so thieves cannot see inside the house, fitting outside lighting and applying locks, bolts and hinges to garden sheds.
On Monday (August 18th), the Daily Star reported that a burglar was arrested after becoming trapped in the window of a home he was attempting to rob.
It took paramedics half an hour to free the man, during which time the neighbourhood had assembled to laugh at him.
