Cover items outside the home - Household insurance cover

Homeowners should look into whether their household insurance cover protects them for items taken outside the property, a financial advice website has claimed.
Writing on Fool.co.uk, Serena Cowdy suggested people should take steps to protect their 'walking wealth' and cited a recent study by Zurich which claims the average UK adult carries belongings worth £972 around with them.
"Unsurprisingly, gadgets like mobile phones, Blackberries and iPods often make up the largest chunk of a persons 'walking wealth', with designer bags and flash jewellery also playing a big part," Ms Cowdy noted.
In addition to covering items outside the house, she also recommended checking that home insurance includes extras.
She pointed out that a Christmas cover increase means the value of the policy will rise during the festive holidays, protecting homeowners against the theft of their tree, presents and other seasonal treats.
Emergency home repairs cover is also recommended, as it allows work to the home such as fixing a burst pipe to be carried out quickly, according to the website.
Last week, Harvey Jones wrote on Fool.co.uk that people should discover if their household insurance cover protects them against acts of God such as floods, earthquakes and lightening.
