A pair of shoes and forensic science led police to a teenage burglar in Norwich, which may interest those holding household insurance cover in the city.
Luke Fletcher, who lives at the YMCA in the area, broke into a home with two accomplices and left his own shoes behind after stealing a pair of white trainers, the Norwich Evening News reports.
However, police were able to extract DNA evidence from the footwear which allowed them to track down the criminal.
After admitting the offence at Norwich crown court, the 18-year-old, who has previous convictions for burglary, shoplifting and criminal damage, was sentenced to ten months in a young offender's institute, according to the new provider.
Judge Alasdair Darroch told Fletcher: "This is not your first burglary and the premises were occupied at night."
Along with the trainers, the gang also made off with a Play Station 3, a mobile phone and DVDs.
In recent home insurance news, Robert Sampson and daughter Emma trapped a thief who was stealing from his mother after rigging a teddy bear with a miniature camera.
