Caravan firm goes into administration - Motorhome insurance

A north Warwickshire caravan manufacturer has gone into administration, which may be sad news for motorhome insurance customers who favour its vehicles.

The Coventry Telegraph reported that Avondale Coachcraft, based in Atherston, was involved in the design and manufacture of touring caravans and had a turnover of around £16 million.

However, the firm has suspended manufacturing following a drop in sales and announced Mark Hopkins and Matthew Hammond, of PricewaterhouseCoopers, have been named joint administrators of the company.

The development puts 149 jobs on the line, although Mr Hammond revealed a "number of parties" could be interested in acquiring the business, while Mr Hopkins suggested trade could be resumed to enable partially-complete caravans to be sold.

He told the newspaper: "The extent to which we are successful in being able to complete the work in progress will be dependent upon the support of employees and suppliers with whom discussions are taking place."

Earlier this month, US motorhome manufacturer Workhorse Custom Chassis unveiled the Avanti, which is designed to include several environmentally-friendly features.
