Cotswold caravan man fined - Motorhome insurance

A Cotswold man has been ordered to pay £2,000 after living illegally in a caravan for the past three years, it has emerged.
Michael Hegarty, who owns the land, only had permission from Cotswold district council to use it for breeding and selling horses, but had been living in the vehicle at Hill View in Icomb since 2005, the Gloucester Citizen reports.
Despite launching a series of appeals against an enforcement notice issued on him in August 2006, the 43-year-old appeared a Cheltenham magistrates' court yesterday (September 22nd) for charges of ignoring the order.
He pleaded guilty, with his defence solicitor Allan Roberts telling the court that Mr Hegarty and his 13-year-old son were living in the caravan because they have nowhere else to stay, the news provider reveals.
Roy Kemp, chair of magistrates, said: "Although this situation is not solely your fault, you have caused the council a great deal of extra work, and the offence is a serious one."
He fined Mr Hegarty £1,000 and ordered him to pay £1,000 in costs.
In recent campervan insurance news, the Swansea Evening Post reported Three Cliffs Bay in Gower has been plagued by illegal campers, who locals blame for causing a litter problem.
