Poorly inflated tyres 'waste fuel'

Motorists can reduce the amount they spend on fuel by ensuring their tyres are correctly inflated, according to a safety organisation.
Research carried out by a member of TyreSafe reveals tyres which are ten per cent under the recommended pressure can increase the amount of fuel used by 2.5 per cent.
The company carried out a survey which showed five per cent of drivers did not realise under-inflated wheels could lead to an increase in fuel usage.
Rob Beddis, TyreSafe chairman, said motorists should take a few minutes every month to check the pressure of each tyre and adjust it accordingly.
"Significant improvements to road safety will be made and motorists can also save money through reducing fuel consumption," he added.
Less than half of the people who did know about under-inflated tyres had checked the pressure in the last month, the survey revealed.
In other safety news, the Institute of Advanced Motorists recently warned drivers to prepare for dark nights and bad weather conditions by checking their vehicle lights. Please click here for more information on home insurance, motorhome insurance or an online quote.
