Whiplash claims increase - Campervan insurance

New research shows that the number of people making insurance claims for whiplash has increased by a quarter over the last five years.

According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), almost 1,200 people claim for the condition after a motor collision, which may interest those with campervan insurance.

The study reveals 430,000 whiplash claims were entered in 2007, amounting to cost of almost £2 billion in compensation.

In addition, treating the injuries set back the NHS around £8 million per year with the UK being the location in Europe which sees the highest number of cases.

Stephen Haddrill, the ABI's director general, commented: "We call on the government, road safety groups, the medical and legal professions and other stakeholders to work with us on a campaign to reduce this problem."

Recently, Europcar suggested reducing stress when behind the wheel can lower the risk of accidents, recommending motorists turn off their phones, stick to the speed limit and sing along to their favourite songs.
