Motorists urged to protect against car theft

UK motorists are being urged to take precautions against car theft, especially during the Christmas period when theft rates are relatively high.
It has been revealed that although there are over two million vehicle-related thefts every year, one in six UK motorists take no measures to secure their vehicles when Christmas shopping.
Green Flag found that younger drivers were particularly lax when it came to car security at Christmas, with almost a quarter (23 per cent) of those questioned admitting that they left Christmas presents clearly visible in their cars.
The most security conscious motorists were the more experienced drivers aged over 55, with over three-quarters (76 per cent) saying they removed all valuables from view when leaving their cars unattended.
Insurance firms often feel the heat at Christmas due to many more break-ins and drivers are being warned not only to take care, but also ensure they have adequate insurance so that goods bought and stolen before they arrive home are covered.
