Consumers advised to insure fridges

With nearly £4 billion will being spent on food in Britain this Christmas, households are being urged to make sure that they are covered in the eventuality of a fridge-freezer meltdown.
Research conducted by Churchill Home Insurance found that approximately £3.9 billion will be spent on food and drink this Christmas, which works out on average at £175 being spent by each household.
Churchill has warned consumers over the costs which they could face if they are not covered, stating that the average claim for loss or theft of fridge-freezer contents around this time of year is £100.
"The one time of the year that you do not want to suffer a fridge-freezer breakdown is over the Christmas period," said Martin Scott, Churchill's Head of Home Insurance.
"Family feasts or bigger parties can be ruined and it can cost a fortune to replace food and drink purchased for special events."
