Flood victims urged to make claims

Flood victims are being urged to put in claims on their insurance policies following the weekend's adverse weather, with the industry prepared for such events.
A spokeswoman for the Association of British Insurers, Leonie Edwards, has stated that policyholders should not be afraid to submit claims. These comments come amid concerns that those who suffered at the hands of the elements may face increased premiums if they claim for flood damage.
Speaking on BBC News 24, Ms Edwards said: "People shouldn't be scared about putting in a claim - that is exactly what you have got insurance for."
She added: "The insurance industry is well-prepared for one-off weather incidents like this." In the North East, 150,000 homes suffered power cuts and Carlisle was cut off by flooding, leaving residents stranded and 40,000 homes without power.
There is the possibility of further bad weather. As such, Ms Edwards advised: "What we are saying to our customers is to protect their properties as they can."
