Consumers urged to update home contents insurance policies

With the UK population losing over £300 million of goods each year in nights out in town, consumers are urged to change update their home contents insurance policies.
Halifax General Insurance, which conducted the research, found that expensive items often go missing, with the average claim for missing items amounting to £400.
Consumers are most likely to lose smaller items, such as keys, money and jewellery.
Saga Home Insurance also stated that individuals often underestimate the cost of their glasses and thus urges consumers to make changes to their home contents insurance policies to protect against loss.
The average pair of spectacles cost between £250 and £400 and while most are not covered by insurance, over £3 million is paid out in claims for glasses each year.
Saga thus advises consumers to add clauses to their home contents insurance policies and to ensure that all valuable items are added to policies.
"Adding accidental damage and personal possessions in and away from home cover to your home contents insurance policy means that your glasses are protected wherever you are," said Saga.
