Adequate home insurance 'a spring priority'

With a surge of consumers expected to renew their home insurance over the next couple of months, insurers have underlined the importance of purchasing adequate cover.
According to AA Insurance half of Britain's householders are putting their homes at risk by lacking insurance that covers the full value of their home contents.
"We believe up to a quarter of householders have no contents cover - and of those who do, up to two thirds are underinsured," said Kevin Sinclair, director of AA Insurance.
With spring being the most popular time of the year for consumers to renew home insurance policies, individuals are being urged to shop around to receive the best value cover possible and to ensure that adequate cover is purchased.
"People often arrange their cover when they take out a mortgage - and then simply forget it. It's only when they make a claim that they may find their cover is inadequate," said Mr Sinclair.
Consumers are advised to make as adequate valuations of their goods, where possible, especially in the case of heirlooms, one in five of which are estimated to be worth £10,000.
