Speeding bikers cleared in US, fined in UK

A motorcyclist who sped through Nebraska in the US at more than 128mph has been cleared of reckless driving by an American judge. The case contrasts with that of a UK biker, who hit 151mph on a road in Shropshire and was fined £200 and banned for 40 days. American biker Jacob Carman zoomed away from police after he was clocked at 82mph in the American state. However, Judge John Steinheider ruled that simply speeding was not enough to prove he was driving recklessly under Nebraska law. "As much as it pains me to do it, speed and speed alone is not sufficient to establish reckless driving," the judge said. In the UK, factory worker Simon John Brindley was caught doing 151.2mph on a 900cc Kawasaki Ninja ZX9R on an A road earlier this year. Chairman of the bench Mrs Sandra Jesse told Mr Brindley he could be jailed if he is caught driving any kind of vehicle during his ban, according to the Shropshire Star. Mr Brindley, a qualified fitness instructor, was described as "someone who is ordinarily sensible and responsible, but on this occasion was not".
