Motor Trike launches Stallion crossover bike

Motor Trike has launched a new line of 'crossover' three-wheeled motorbikes, combining the criteria of a car with the classification of a motorbike. The company, which for 11 years has made conversion kits to turn certain motorcycles into three-wheel models, said that its Thoroughbred Motorsports division features a reverse gear and a steering wheel, but is classified as a motorbike. Critics have even claimed that the Stallion, which encloses both driver and passenger, even has the outer look of a car. Wayne Tompkins, Motor Trike general manager, said that the Stallion is the result of listening to consumer's demands. The Tyler Morning Telegraph quoted Mr Tompkins saying: "What the customers told them is they wanted something with an automatic transmission, with a steering wheel, with a high degree of fuel range. "[The Stallion] has about 450 miles of fuel range in one drive." Powered by Ford 2.3-litre, 155-horsepower four-cylinder engine, the trike is equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission and an 11-gallon fuel cell. Mr Tompkins said that customers had also requested air conditioning and heating, both of which the Stallion features. The company said it has produced four prototypes, with the vehicle likely to be available in Motor Trike-affiliated dealers across the US from June. "We'll produce approximately 700 of them this year, June-December. Then we expect to bump up production next year to between 5,000 and 7,000 units," Mr Tompkins said.
