Police launch probe in Blue Arrows death

Lothian and Borders Police have launched an investigation into the death of the leader of the British Army's Blue Arrows motorcycle display team. Staff sergeant Paul Eaton, 45, of the Scottish Transport Regiment (Volunteers) died after was has been described as a "horrific" accident during a training session. The Blue Arrows were training in a car park next to the Royal Highland Show Ground in Ingliston, Edinburgh at lunch time on Sunday, according to passers by when the accident occurred. The married soldier sustained critical injuries and was taken to the city's Royal Infirmary hospital, where he later died. Staff sergeant Eaton's superiors have paid tribute to the soldier's "unstinting loyalty and devotion" to his regiment. Just two weeks ago staff sergeant Eaton was awarded for his success in saving the display team when it had been under threat from folding, according to an Army spokesperson. Lothian and Borders Police are now working with the Army and officials from Edinburgh City Council to determine precisely what went wrong.
