Ubiquitous bike maker Harley-Davidson has posted a second quarter profit which has grown by three per cent, fuelled by massive growth in international sales and a new engine. The iconic company's international sales grew by a vivacious 17.3 per cent. In its first engine overhaul since 1999, Harley has introduced the Twin Cam 96, which features a nine per cent increase in displacement, 19 per cent more torque and the more traditional throaty grumble associated with the Harley. The look, sound and feel of a Harley-Davidson starts with the V-Twin engine," said Jim Ziemer, the company's president and CEO. "We've retuned the mufflers with the new engines," Ziemer said. "It's not noisier, it's a better sound, a more quality sound. You can hear it ... it's a sweet sound." Perhaps the best known and most widely recognised vehicle in the world, the Harley ceased to be a mere bike a long time ago and became an American icon. Now to many it's a symbol of freedom, rebellion and the open road.
