Indian Motorcycle Company, one of the most venerable names in motorcycle manufacturing, has selected Kings Mountain, North Carolina, for its new world headquarters. The legendary bikes will be assembled in a 40,000 square foot manufacturing facility, on 11 acres of property. With the announcement of the factory, the official re-launch of perhaps the most iconic motorcycle brand in history is complete. Indian chairman, Stephen Julius, said: "We are in the heart of our nation's powersports industry, with access to design, engineering and mechanical talent, world-class suppliers, motorsport education centres and year-round motorcycle riding weather. "In addition, this area provides us with economic advantages, including a low overall cost of doing business." Founded in 1901, the Indian Motorcycle Company was at one time the largest motorbike manufacturer in the world, producing 20,000 bikes a year, before WW1. Unlike its main US rival, Harley Davidson, Indian supported racing as a way to improve their bikes and won first, second and third place at the Isle of Man TT in 1912.
