Pittsburgh Steelers offensive linesman Barrett Brooks was arrested on the south side of Pittsburgh after leading police on a chase through the city on his motorbike.
Brooks had a breathalyzer test after being caught, however police say that he measured under the legal limit for alcohol, but was not wearing a helmet.
Officers started chasing Brooks after he drove "recklessly" around a police car.
The 34-year-old 325-pound linesman is a top ranked offensive player, having joined Pittsburgh two years ago and previously having played for Philadelphia, Detroit and Green Bay.
Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett did not comment on the incident.
This is the second mishap this year that a Steelers player has had on a motorcycle, with star quarterback "Big Ben" Roethlisberger suffering multiple facial fractures in the beginning of June from a smash while riding his motorcycle.
Roethlisberger is now back on the practice field after surgery, performing light workouts.
