BMF lukewarm on ISA

The British Motorcycle Federation (BMF) has said that it is only receptive to Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) for motorcycles if they only function on an advisory basis.
An ISA is a device which, using global positioning satellites and digital maps can tell a driver of a motorcycle or automobile what speed they should be going.
Some ISAs, when connected to a vehicle's mechanics, can actually prevent a vehicle from going above a certain speed in some areas.
Recently the Motor Industries Research Association completed a five year trial of ISAs in conjunction with Leeds University.
The BMF stated: "The concept of external speed control has far-reaching implications for society say the BMF and such devices cannot be looked at in isolation.
"While people have readily accepted GPS and its benefits, road pricing and speed regulation using this same technology are being trialled throughout the world."
Government proposals to fit all cars with ISAs have met with strong resistance from the Association of British Drivers.
