The final stages of the Tour of Britain saw an accident yesterday as a police motorcycle lost control and ploughed into a crowd of spectators.
Five people had to be taken to hospital after a Metropolian Police motorcyclist collided with a race marshal motorcyclist and went careening into the crowd.
Four men and one woman sustained injuries, none of which were life threatening.
The accident happened on The Mall in London.
This was the first time that a route through the city of London had been included in the tour.
The collision came halfway through the final stage in the race, just after 3:30 BST and both riders were amongst those taken to hospital.
Graham Jones, the race administration director, was among those who managed to dive out of the way of the bike.
Crowds were six-deep in The Mall when the accident occurred.
There was another collision among bicycles in the last lap of the race, with one rider suffering a concussion.
